Question #356
Should we publish a song book addendum?
Considering your point that there aren’t many invitation songs in our book, and that there are 23 on your list that were left out, have you thought to put a paperback booklet together specifically for those songs? They could be put in the pews along with the other books, and used whenever the songleader desires. Just a thought.
The Answer:
Some congregations have followed this practice, but there are problems with it. First, from a practical standpoint good lasting reproductions are hard to do. The print is often small and the materials used are prone to easy destruction ranging from being wrinkled beyond usefulness to being used as note pads (much like visitor or member registration cards). Second, from a legal standpoint there are copyright problems. It ill becomes us to break the law to worship unless the law is contrary to the will of God in which case, as Peter said, we must obey God rather than men. Third, even with those problems solved “Songs of Faith and Praise” still has sufficient problems that it seems a better solution to replace it.
