Question #299
What about Ebionism, Gnosticism, Arian Controversy, The Augustine-Pelagius Controversy?
Please tell me where I can get info on: 1) Ebionism, 2) Gnosticism, 3) Arian Controversy, 4) The Augustine-Pelagius Controversy. Thank you in advance.
The Answer:
The simplest thing to do is to “google” those terms. If you have access to a good library you may find information in the following publications:
-
Encyclopedia of Early Christianity, ed. By Everett Ferguson.
-
History of the Christian Church, by Philip Schaff, esp. the first three volumes.
-
The New Schaff-Herzog Encyclopedia of Religious Knowledge
-
Ante-Nicene Fathers, Nicene and Post-Nicene Fathers, First and Second Series should also have an abundance of material.
-
Many commentaries will have information in comments on books that address issues related to the “isms” about which you inquire. Some of the issues raised are addresses only indirectly in the sense that the scriptures address matters that rebut false teaching.

Also, our lessons on Jude have much to say about the Gnostics.
