Question #238
Is our current marriage an adulterous one?
My current husband and I were divorced when we met and married. Ten years later we were baptized into the Lord’s Church. Adultery was committed in both of our past marriages. Is our current marriage an adulterous one? Must we now divorce each other in order to repent?
The Answer:
This question does not indicate whether the two involved were the innocent parties in the prior adultery. If they were, then each of them could remarry. If they were the guilty parties they could not remarry. Their current marriage would be adulterous and would remain so as long as they are married.
