Question #152
Is it wrong to pledge allegiance to the flag?
I ask this question without having specifically researched the scriptures, yet. As a Christian, is there any issue with pledging allegiance, not just to the flag or United States, but to anything other than God and Christ? It sounds unpatriotic to ask such a question, but it also seems, in some way, to go towards serving two masters. I look forward to your analysis and exposition.
The Answer:
For an answer to this question, please scroll down to the bottom of this article. As for serving two masters, one could say the same thing about a marriage vow. The key with the vow to your spouse and the pledge to your country is that neither is your master. We have but one master and all things are in subjection to Him.
