Question #65
What about the practice of women speaking during Bible classes?
I know that the Bible teaches that women are to keep silent and to be taught by their husbands at home. I obey this command completely. But there are some who say that this is only for the “worship” service and not for the bible study that goes on an hour before. I believe that the separation of bible study and worship is man made. There is no separation in the New Testament, so why does the church let this practice continue and not teach what the Bible says?
The Answer:
One reason that you do not find separation between worship hours and Bible study hours in the New Testament is because there is no record in the New Testament of Bible study hours such as we now have. This does not mean that such Bible study hours are unscriptural; it means that Bible study hour occurs at a time and in a manner that is not the entire body assembled. It is a convenient period of time designed to increase the study and knowledge of Scripture. Even so, a woman should not take the leadership in such a class when there are believing men present. Finally, not only can a wife learn from her husband at home, a wise husband will realize that he can also learn from his wife.
