Question #390
Does the ASV leave out some verses?
I was looking at Q&A in regarding to versions of the bible. I saw where you stated the 1901 version of the American Standard was the most accurate. I was looking for one online and saw some comments from people who had bought one. One reviewer said it left out some of the same scriptures that the NIV did. Do you know what they might have been talking about?
The Answer:
Since no passage is given it is impossible to know what passage(s) the person of whom you speak had in mind. However, it is not necessary to know the specific verses to answer the question. It is true that the ASV does not contain some verses that are found in the KJV. The two translations are based upon different textual traditions. You will find a discussion of the some of the differences between the KJV and the ASV at Question 366.
